The majority of Pine View Campground in Fort McCoy will close on Dec. 1, officials with the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (DFMWR) said.

DFMWR’s Alex Karis said campsites will not be available between December 1 and April 30, 2023.

“The campground will close from December 1, but we will have 16 cabins that will still be available to rent through the winter months, as well as our ‘stay and play’ package for the Whitetail Ridge ski area. ie if you stay friday and saturday or saturday and sunday at a cabin you will receive half of your play day at whitetail ridge.

Cabins range from one-bedroom loft (park-style) to two-bedroom units.

The Pine View Campground office and Fort McCoy equipment crate will remain open, Karis said. The office will be busy since there will be guests in the cabin, and they will be handling spring/summer camping reservations.

“Equipment check-out will also be available, but the volume of business in this area is very low in winter,” Karis said. “When there is enough snow, people can also try cross-country skis and snowshoes across Whitetail Ridge. Anyone with questions about any of the crate items of equipment should call the Pine View Campground office at 608-388-3517.

Karis said he encourages people to explore the miles of hiking trails in the Pine View Recreation Area, even in winter, as they offer scenic views and great opportunities for hiking, snowshoeing or cross-country skiing. bottom.

“Hiking trails to places like Trout Falls on the La Crosse River are close to our cabins, and we also have Suukjak Sep Lake, which is right next to many cabins,” Karis said. “So even with the campsites closed, stopping here in the winter and staying in the cabins while going to the ski area or hiking in the recreation area can be a great experience.”
