Mammoth buys a local hotel for the accommodation of its employees

Big news from Mammoth Mountain this morning!

The resort purchased Sierra Lodge in Mammoth Lakes, California to add affordable housing for 72 employees in 36 units. The move comes as Mammoth Mountain and Mammoth Lakes join a national initiative to provide affordable housing opportunities for resort employees.

Mammoth plans to start housing employees this summer.

Kudos to Mammoth for taking a small step toward solving the housing crisis for seasonal and resort workers who have been priced out by the insane real estate market. I like to see it.

Mammoth Mountain strengthens employee housing and adds 36 new units

Acquisition of Sierra Lodge to house 72 employees

Mammoth Lakes, Calif. (June 22, 2022) — Mammoth Mountain today announced its impending acquisition of Sierra Lodge, with plans to update and convert the property into employee housing. Sierra Lodge’s 36 units will house up to 72 Mammoth Resorts employees.

“Employee housing is a priority for us in the current environment, and the acquisition of the Sierra Lodge property is a significant step in meeting the immediate needs of our employees and the Mammoth community,” said Ron Cohen, President. from Mammoth Resorts. “One of the things about this transaction that we really liked was that repossessing this property and converting it to housing means that no existing workforce will be displaced by the acquisition, as they would be if we were buying existing accommodation, these new beds will be immediately available and will be 100% in addition to local workforce accommodation.”

The property’s central Main Street location and accessibility to the Mammoth Lakes free bus system make it the perfect location to house employees. Renovations are set to begin immediately, with plans to house employees this summer. When ready, each room will offer a kitchenette and a private bathroom. Employees will also have access to 30 underground parking spaces on site as well as common areas at the Lodge.

“I am pleased that Sierra Lodge can add much-needed employee housing to the City of Mammoth Lakes and the Eastern Sierras,” said George Tschiporikov, a longtime Mammoth Lakes resident and the current owner of Sierra Lodge. “The transaction will also allow Lodge staff to continue working in similar roles with Mammoth Mountain Ski Area.”

The acquisition of the Sierra Lodge property adds to Mammoth Resorts’ current employee housing portfolio, which provides housing for approximately 500 Mammoth Resorts employees.
