DEER VALLEY RESORT, Utah – This morning Alterra Mountain Company announced that Todd Bennett has been selected as the new President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) for Deer Valley Resort. Bennett will take office on August 1, 2022.
Alterra Mountain Company purchased Deer Valley Resort in August 2017 and owns several ski resorts throughout the west, including Mammoth Mountain and Steamboat Ski Resort.
“Deer Valley is a beloved and revered destination with a heritage of service to its employees and guests. Todd is the natural leader to lead Deer Valley into its next era, while honoring the heritage of this special place,” said Mark Brownlie, Chief Operating Officer, Alterra Mountain Company. “Todd has an impressive track record of building and leading customer-centric teams with a focus on the overall employee experience and culture. Its vision to blend legendary experiences found only in Deer Valley, with new and innovative offerings to come, along with its love of the mountains, is an ideal match for a resort committed to establishing the bar of excellence in customer service.
Bennett began his career in the ski industry in 1999 in Colorado, spending several years at Vail Mountain overseeing resort operations, staff and guest relations. Todd’s passion for skiing and the outdoors led him to co-found an artist-focused outdoor media company, Open Road Ski Company, a direct-to-consumer publishing business that works closely with the legendary ski map artist James Niehues, which led to The man behind the cards, one of the best-selling ski books of all time.
Most recently, Bennett worked for The Walt Disney Company, as Executive Product Director. In this role, Bennett led a team of executives and planners responsible for developing and optimizing merchandise, food and beverage, space planning, and the digital guest experience at Disneyland Resort in California.
As President and COO, Todd will oversee the day-to-day operations of Deer Valley and prioritize improving the customer experience to reinvigorate the “Deer Valley difference.” The hire comes just over a year after Alterra Mountain Company announced a $207 million investment in capital improvements across all of its resorts.
Bennett will most likely be in charge of upgrades to the Deer Valley Terrain Park lodge and base area, which will see a complete overhaul to create a top-notch base experience for guests.
“I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to bring my experience in destination operations and services to Deer Valley and contribute to the ‘Deer Valley difference’ that makes this place so special,” said Todd Bennett, new President and COO of Deer Valley Resort. “I have a long love of the mountains and the history of the ski industry and am honored to join this community and be part of its future.”
