NORTHEAST OHIO – The Katz Amsterdam Foundation has awarded the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeast Ohio (BGCNEO) a grant for a pilot ski program aimed at introducing winter sports to young people who otherwise would not have may not be able to access the activity. The program prioritizes organizations that serve communities of color.
Youth at BGCNEO’s Steve Wise location on Jonathan Avenue in Akron, as well as its Barberton location, pictured above on a ski outing, received weekly ski trips, transportation, tuition and equipment at the Brandywine Ski Area in Sagamore Hills.
The Katz Amsterdam Foundation was established in 2017 by the owners of Vail Resorts, which operates Brandywine and Boston Mills ski resorts in Brecksville, and works to remove barriers to health, increase access to opportunity and improve outcomes for all, according to BGCNEO officials.
BGCNEO offers after-school activities for youth ages 6-18 to encourage academic achievement, healthy lifestyles and character development.
